He's out. It took a weekend, but Toronto's embattled Catholic school board confirmed yesterday that Trustee Oliver Carroll -- ordered off the board by a judge -- is no longer a trustee.
Toronto Catholic District School Board spokesman Mary Jo Deighan said yesterday that the Ward 8 seat is vacated.
"We are abiding by the court ruling," Deighan said. "We will put into place the steps required for someone not serving as a trustee."
That includes shutting down Carroll's email address, she said. Before the end of the day yesterday, the Scarborough trustee's name and photo had also been removed from the TCDSB's website.
On Friday Justice Jane Kelly found Carroll had violated the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act and judicially removed him from the board.
The same day, the former TCDSB chairman told the Sun he was appealing and that he believed he was still a trustee pending the appeal.
The board had said it would spend the weekend going over the decision.
Under the Education Act, the board has 60 days to fill the empty seat.
It isn't clear whether a replacement will be appointed or elected, Deighan said.
The board has been under provincial supervision after repeated reports by the Sun detailing some trustees expensing booze and vacations.
Carroll was taken to court by ratepayer Michael Baillargeon.
