TCDSB Receives "Enhancing Public Trust and Confidence" Ministry Report
TORONTO, May 7 /CNW/ - The Toronto Catholic District School Board has
received the "Enhancing Public Trust and Confidence" report prepared by
Norbert Hartmann. The appointment of Mr. Hartmann was as a result of the
current Chair, Catherine LeBlanc-Miller seeking advice to have an extensive
review of Trustee expense policies, practices and procedures.
"Since 2003, our policies have been revised several times. Based on the
findings by Mr. Hartmann it appears that there are inconsistencies in how the
policies are interpreted," says Catherine LeBlanc-Miller, Chair of the Board.
"I know my fellow Trustees will work towards ensuring that we have policies
that are accountable, transparent and consistent with Provincial
expectations."
The report lists approximately 20 recommendations in regards to policies,
procedures and practices that require revisions.
"We will continue to work with the Minister of Education and the
appointed staff to finalize the revisions and implementation of the
recommendations within the timeframe allocated for this," says the TCDSB
Chair.
"Although it has been a challenging process for us," says LeBlanc-Miller,
"because the report was provided in such a timely fashion, it allows us to
move forward quickly with clearer policies and procedures that will help to
restore the trust and confidence of our constituents," she adds.
The Toronto Catholic District School Board educates more than 90,000
students from diverse cultures and language backgrounds in its 201 Catholic
elementary and secondary schools and serves 475,032 Catholic school supporters
across the City of Toronto.
