It is a pleasure to welcome back returning students and staff and to greet our newest members of the Toronto Catholic school community. I hope that the summer was relaxing and allowed you some time to enjoy your families and friends. A new school year brings the promise of new challenges and opportunities. Our youngest students enter the Catholic education system full of energy and enthusiasm, though perhaps with some trepidation. Our oldest students prepare for their final year with much the same emotions, though we hope they now have experience, wisdom and the knowledge that there is a strong spiritual community supporting them.
We are looking forward to the school year with great anticipation and optimism. We are entering the third year of our three-year pastoral plan of Word, Worship and Witness. The year will emphasize more than ever our commitment to the social justice of the Catholic Church. We will embark on a new three-year pastoral plan for 2012-2013 that will build on the experiences that we have shared as a Catholic community over the last few years.
The launch of our Multi-Year Strategic Plan last April began a collaborative process to provide a foundation for building on our successes. Our multi-year goals are: Student Achievement and Well-Being; Living Our Values; Strengthening Public Confidence; Stewardship of Resources; Excellence in Governance and Inspired and Motivated Employees. I encourage you to become familiar with the plan. A tremendous amount of groundwork and discussion has already taken place. The unanimous approval of a budget at the June 16th meeting of the Board of Trustees re-establishes our commitment to deliver effective, efficient and equitable programs and services while better meeting the needs of all students.
On behalf of the Senior Team, I hope the year ahead is rewarding both spiritually and academically. May you take delight in daily learning and seek new adventures. I encourage each of you to continue to embrace the shared responsibility of educating our students and to act as role models of gospel values and Catholic doctrines, teachings and beliefs. We will continue to provide a safe and welcome learning environment that is an example of Christian community. Many of you know that I am retiring this Fall. The search for a new Director of Education is underway and you will be advised as to who my successor will be as soon as possible. In the meantime, I thank you for your support as we enter another dynamic year of Catholic education.
Sincerely,
Ann Perron
Director of Education
