Toronto Catholic District School Board
February 19, 2009
Dear Parent/Catholic School Supporter:
In our report entitled Strengthening Public Trust and Confidence: A Call to Stewardship and
Service , we had indicated a desire to enhance opportunities for advice on future system directions
from the Board’s various communities. One of those communities will consist of the various
members of the Board’s parents, students and Catholic school supporters.
To date we have accomplished this through informal or previously arranged meetings, phone
conversations and through the monthly public board meeting where parents and the general public
are welcome to delegate the Board.
In order to enhance opportunities to provide in-put and advice to the Supervision Team, we call for
the creation of various liaison and advisory committees, one of which would be known as the
Community Advisory Committee. Attached are the terms of reference drafted for the Community
Advisory Committee.
We are asking for the following associations/organizations to nominate one of their current serving
members to sit on the Community Advisory Committee:
• Archdiocese of Toronto
• Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC)
• Greater Toronto Catholic Parent Network (GTCPN)
• Toronto Association for Parents in Catholic Education (TAPCE)
• one student representative chosen by the Catholic School Leadership Impact Team (CSLIT)
– this representative may be the current Student Trustee serving on the Board
Four members at large:
Nominations for four members at large are also being invited. These will be selected from
nominations received from:
• parents with children in our system and not currently serving on one of the above
associations or organizations
• community Catholic education school supporters/ratepayers
As part of the selection process, each community member at large is asked to write a brief one-page
overview of why he/she wishes to serve on this committee and how he/she would assist with
contributing to the needs of the TCDSB. A brief biography should also be included.
Please submit nominations, including contact information, by e-mail to both
norbert.hartmann@tcdsb.org and norm.forma@tcdsb.org, or by standard mail to: Attention:
Supervision Team, Toronto Catholic District School Board, 80 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto, ON
M6N 2E8.
The deadline for all nominations is Wednesday, March 4, 2009. The confirmation of the first
meeting date will be sent to all selected members. We thank you for your interest and look forward
to our first opportunity to meet as a Community Advisory Committee in March.
Sincerely,
Norbert Hartmann Norm Forma

Community Advisory Committee – Terms of Reference
Purpose:
The purpose of the Community Liaison Committee (CAC) is to provide information, advice
and feedback to and from the Supervision Team through the exchange of information,
discussion of issues and new ideas, promotion of understanding and appreciation of differing
perspectives, and to introduce materials that will ultimately be shared with the broader TCDSB
community.
The CAC serves in an advisory capacity. Community representatives on the CAC recognize
the right of the Supervision Team to formulate policy and decisions affecting the Board and its
community. The Supervision Team recognizes the value of consultation with its wide
community prior to implementing such policies and decisions.
Although the Supervision Team will reserve its right as the sole decision making body, it
recognizes the value of consultation with its key partners in Catholic education. Committee
meetings will provide this opportunity and also create a forum for discussion and the exchange
of ideas
Membership:
The CAC is to be composed of the following:
• Archdiocese of Toronto
• Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC)
• Greater Toronto Catholic Parent Network (GTCPN)
• Toronto Association for Parents in Catholic Education (TAPCE)
• one student representative chosen by the Catholic School Leadership Impact Team
(CSLIT) – this representative may be the current Student Trustee serving on the Board
• four members at large
• at least one representative of the Supervision Team.
The Director of Education, or designate, will attend meetings in an advisory capacity and when
called upon provide information and clarification to assist in discussions. Other staff resources
may be made available to assist as needed. Other resources, as determined desirable by the
Supervision Team, may be added as needed.
Chair:
A member of the Supervision Team will Chair all meetings.
Meetings:
Meetings shall be held on an “as needed basis”, but not less than quarterly, provided matters are
available for the agenda.
The Director of Education will forward to all members notice of meetings. Notice will include
a draft agenda of items to be discussed. Where a meeting has been scheduled and is being
cancelled, the Director of Education will issue a notice to that effect.
Meetings will be conducted in an informal manner without the requirement of official motions.
Procedures:
• Meetings will normally be held in the Board’s Large Committee Room, commencing at
7:00 pm.
• Minutes of meetings will be kept and posted on the Board’s website following each
meeting.
• All members will treat each other with respect, accepting that differences may exist and
must be tolerated. Where consensus cannot be reached, any member may request that
the group they represent be noted in the minutes as being opposed to the decision taken.
Limitations:
Matters affecting single individuals, personal issues, etc. will not be discussed and the CAC
will focus solely on system wide concerns and policies.
